Walk through a gate into a small enclosure. All four sides of the fence are visible no matter where you're standing in the field. Yet, no matter how long you look, you cannot find the gate out. It is impossible. Stand leaning against one part of the fence and look at every part of the fenceline, put your hand on the fence and walk all the way around, nothing. The gate's gone. You are utterly lost in a field that it should be impossible to get lost in.

Happened to a few people I know who went to Ireland, they were trapped inside a small fenced field for three hours. It took fifteen minutes to circle the entire thing and they were trapped for hours.

Best parallel I could come up with for the apparent time distortion in England.
