Full Version: Botnetting
Hawk
This thread is in response to my thread "Fuck the Internet"

Basically, following on from my ideas in my "Fuck the Internet" article, I would like to now detail how one could use a Botnet of willing hosts, from a willing number of participants, to bring down those that cause damage to the current state of the Internet.

Basically, a Botnet is a distributed Computer system, one that is spread over dozens, hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands of PC's. Some even run into the Hundreds of Thousands and Millions of PC's range.

Now, websites that host video files, movies, music, social networking and such rely on their sites and servers to do the job, and as such they would then require to take a large workload. This is typically done by using their own "botnet" of a sort to distribute the videos and workload across multiple servers, even across countries, continents and oceans.

What a well placed botnet could do is cause a large amount of traffic to servers such as this, servers that are currently causing damage to the internet as a service. The basic premise is that we get say, 100,000 computers all running as part of a botnet, and then simply access the site. 100,000 times every second with 100,000 computers.

2 ways in that this is not illegal as the law is now:
  • Legitimate - As the people using the computers will "not have prior knowledge" of the botnet, or their computer being on the botnet, then the PC must be sending a legit request to the server
  • Plausible Deniability - Yes large volumes of traffic will slow down acess and such, but the thing is, because the few people that know how the botnet works will remain anonymous compared to the computers that could be traced

Now, the controller PC's would themselves be hidden on a Dark Internet that is created by the botnet itself, thus obscuring those PC's from the internet and making them 100% invisible and unable to be traced.

What programmes do you need to make one of these bots? And i hope we don't need 100,000 computers tongue.gif

We'd use way more than 100,000 computers, and something like GPU would do the trick.
